London, UK – Two of Britain’s most innovative watchmakers, Christopher Ward and Mr Jones Watches, have joined forces to create a whimsical, limited-edition timepiece that blends artistry and precision watchmaking. The Celestial will launch on Thursday, 27th March and will be available exclusively through Christopher Ward.

The Celestial is an enchanting moonphase watch featuring a dreamy night sky scene adorned with gilded silver stars, purple birds, and a cheerful cartoon moon that glides above a bed of 3D pastel clouds. The unique visual design, crafted in Mr Jones Watches’ signature quirky style, is housed in Christopher Ward’s new 37mm case and powered by the in-house JJ04 module, which seamlessly tracks the lunar cycle with an accuracy that, if kept wound, could remain precise for 128 years.

A Fusion of Creativity and Horology
This remarkable collaboration sees Mr Jones Watches taking the lead on the artistic design, while Christopher Ward oversees assembly and production.
Bea Watts, lead assembly technician at Mr Jones Watches, created the watch’s intricate diorama after winning an internal design competition. Reflecting on her inspiration, Bea shared:
“My design celebrates the beauty of the night sky in a playful way. I was inspired by the magical feeling of sitting outside to watch the sunset, and staying there till day transitions into night. The moon begins to appear, swallows swoop and dive through the air, and in my design, you’re transported into the air too, hovering above a blanket of clouds. It’s a cosy, secret space from which to stargaze; my design captures a feeling of comfort and quiet, and encourages you to appreciate the fleetingness of a certain moment.”

Unlike traditional watches, Celestial tells time in an unconventional manner, enlisting the help of two purple birds—one near the dial rim representing the minutes and a slower-moving one pointing to the hours.
Christopher Ward’s watch designer, William Brackfield, commented on the unique partnership:
“Their process is very different to ours. Normally, we’d have markers and hands, but they’re coming from a very visual side. The end result is like a painting – but in a watch.”
